Some lives are comfortable. Some lives are ordinary. And some lives are chosen by God through hardship.
Pastor M.B. John's life began with loss. As a young boy, he lost his mother. His father remarried, and John was sent away to live with relatives. Instead of being sent to school like other children, he was made to work as a shepherd boy.
Day after day he watched other children walk to school while he tended sheep under the hot sun.
At age 15, he made a decision that would change his life forever. He approached a Christian missionary and said: "I want to go to school like the other children."
That simple request changed everything.
"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
— Matthew 25:40
With the help of a Christian missionary, John started first grade at an age when most boys finish middle school. While others might have felt ashamed, John felt only determination. Through faith, discipline, and perseverance, he completed his education step by step.
The missionary saw in John not just intelligence or discipline, but a heart for God. John became a teacher, then a headmaster, then a pastor. He later obtained a secure government job, but when asked to leave it to serve God, he did not hesitate. He chose ministry over security. Faith over comfort. Purpose over salary.
He studied theology in India and later in Fresno, California. For decades he faithfully served congregations, planting churches and building communities of faith throughout the Mahabubnagar region. What made him special was not his titles. It was his heart.
Even after retiring from active leadership, when most people choose rest, Pastor John chose a mission. Using only his small pension, he began building churches in poor rural villages: Gudipally, Mylapuram, Chinthapally, and beyond, so that laborers without transportation would have a place to worship near their homes. In areas where summer heat reaches 120 degrees, he wanted no believer to walk miles just to worship.
John Ministries was founded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to continue his unfinished dream: maintaining rural churches, supporting pastors, caring for widows and orphans, training ministry workers, and building churches in unreached villages.
